Read more about this watch...

The Polerouter is one of Universal Genève's most iconic watches and the first Polerouters were designed by Gerald Genta, famed for designing the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and patek Philippe Nautilus amongst others. The first Polerouter was published in 1954 to make polar flights between Los Angeles, New York City and Europe more popular. Since flights over the North Pole in the past meant that watches couldn't correctly display the time on those flights, the Polerouter was designed to be extremely resistant to magnetic fields for accuracy during flights.
In 1961, Universal Genève expanded the Polerouter line with the Polerouter Sub, a larger, more robust watch meant for divers. The distinguishing characteristics of this model include the "Art Deco" numbers, the use of the red accents on the dial, and the rotating bezel. Manufacture for various Polerouter Sub models continued until about 1968.
On May 1955, Universal filed Swiss Patent Nº 329805 for a "Microrotor", or as they called it a "Microtor", and the patent was published on June 30, 1958. At the time of its inception, the Microtor was revolutionary. In 1955 Universal Genève released the calibre 215 Microtor movement in the second generation Polarouters, which were now called the "Polerouter". On the March 26, 1956, under patent Nº 336013 (published on March 4, 1959) Universal Genève filed an additional patent Nº 329805. The new calibre UG 68 was 4.10mm thick, and had a centre hour, minute, and seconds hand. This was then followed by the calibre UG 69, which was the calibre UG 68 with the addition of a date disc, with a thickness of 4.70mm. The development of UG 6x calibres continued through the 1960s in various iterations.
The second generation of the Universal Genève Polerouter Sub was released in about 1964, initally as model 204615/1. Then, Universal Genève changed the numbering system commercing an 8691xx series with the Polerouter Date, 869101/1.
The Ref. 869109/1 dates about 1965, it still has a symmetrical stainless steel 40mm case. The movement is the Cal. UG 69. Inside the Super Compressor caseback reads BREVET 238872, BREVDEM. Outside case now marked 869109/1 and the serial number 245xxxx, dating watch to 1966.
