Tudor Submariner 7928 (1967)

*Extremely rare timepiece*
**Watch Only**

Pre-owned Tudor Submariner Ref. 7928, with a 39mm stainless steel MK4 case, original bifirectional rotatable steel bezel with black aluminiuim lunette graduated in 5-minute interval, original MK2 "Tropical" dial with creamy Radium hour markers and original hands, silver-colored graphics and a gilt minute track. Plexiglass crystal, automatic movement calibre 390. Oyster-type steel bracelet with deployant clasp with Rolex logo.

The bezel and
dial of this example subsequently underwent discoloration due to intense and prolonged exposure to UV rays. Collectors use the term "Tropical" to describe this type of faded color dial, which is greatly prized. The inscriptions on the dial of this example are silver-colored.

A very rare timepiece. The Tudor Submariner Ref. 7928 was produced only for 10 years, so it's a very hard to find timepiece. In a very good condition, keeping all its original elements. Watch only (without original box and papers).

Read more about this watch...

In 1959, with the advent of Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7928, Tudor for the first time proposed the principle of guards to protect the winding crown from shocks. The variations in the execution of this protection were an illustration of the dynamic continuous evolution of the same reference, very characteristic of the first-generation Tudor Submariners. Ref. 7928 produced in 1959, presented the square version of these protections, called "Square Crown Guards" in collectors’ circles.

The evolution of reference 7928 was continuous as the changes in the crown guards of its cases. The Tudor Submariner case was seeking its ultimate line passing from an initial version of square crown guards to a more pointed ones also with the reference 7928 and produced around 1961, earning the nickname "Pointed Crown Guards" or "Cornino". It was until a few years laters that it would find its ultimate line with rounded shape crown guards (as featured on the presented watch) that kept in production until the last of the Tudor Submariners in the late 90's. With these new protections, the size of the crown would now be 6 mm. The case measures 39mm in diameter and is waterproof to a depth of 200 metres. The design of its dial, hands and bezel is similar to that of references 7922, 7924 and 7925. The case bore a Rolex signature, as it did its crown and the Oyster-type bracelet. Its dial bore the gilt inscriptions "OYSTER PRINCE" at noon under the brand logo, and "200m = 660ft", "SUBMARINER", "ROTOR", "SELF-WINDING" on four lines at 6 o’clock. Its bezel is bidirectional and graduated with a luminous insert placed at zero on the graduation. Its movement is the self-winding calibre 390, just as for all the Tudor Oyster Prince Submariners in the 7900 series.
