This is a “White Sub”, a model that Rolex sold between 1969 and 1979, with all white graphics. The dial is “Feet First” (depth in feet and meter: “660ft = 200m”). This is an MK1 dial: the “L” in “ROLEX” stands perfectly in the middle under the crown. The “SUBMARINER” text is as wide as the depth ratings, the numbers “6” are closed and at 6 o’clock we can find the text “SWISS -T<25”, meaning the luminous paint is tritium based.
The bezel is an MK3. We can determine the type of bezel by looking at the “4” in “40” - the space inside the 4 is a triangle. In a good state of conservation, keeping all the accessories of the time. Complete with original box and papers.
Read more about this watch...The Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic sport watches of all time. Its history and evolution has been constant since its first appearance in the market, during the early 1950s.
The Reference 1680 was introduced 10 years after the Submariner 5512 came to market and 16 years after the Submariner made its debut becoming the eventual successor to one of Rolex’s longest serially produced references. The 1680 brought a major innovation to the Submariner line, with the addition of a date window underneath the “Cyclops” date magnifier. Also the Ref. 1680 is labeled as waterproof up to 200 meters and has a chronometer status.
The calibre inside is the 1570 with a date disc (already in work in the Datejust and GMT-Master). From 1971, the movement was equipped with “Hacking Seconds”: when you want to set your Submariner’s time, the seconds hand stops allowing you for a more precise setting. The date mechanism is “Quick Switch” and “Slow Set”.
The bracelet is 93150 with a steel solid links and 580 end-links (produced from mid 1975 to late 1990 aprox.).
