Rolex Submariner Date 16610LV "Kermit" MK1 Dial "Fat 4" Bezel (2004)

*Full Set*

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16610LV, with 40mm stainless steel case, unidirectional rotatable 1st "Fat 4" steel bezel with green aluminium lunette, MK1 black Superluminova "SWISS MADE" dial with white hour markers and hands and date indicator at 3 o’clock (through the "Cyclops" window). Sapphire crystal, automatic movement calibre 3135. Oystersteel bracelet with deployant clasp.

In 2003, Rolex marked the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Submariner with the launch of the Ref. 16610LV, with a green bezel, better known to collectors as the Rolex "Kermit". Why green? Rolex has long associated itself with the green color. Its logo, boxes, hang tags, etc. are all green. The brand has never offered any official explanation for why this is. The general consensus though is that it’s because green is synonymous with money and by extension, success, power and so on. All things Rolex seeks to represent.

The bezel wasn’t the only thing that looked different on the new Ref. 16610LV. The 50th anniversary model also saw the introduction of the "Maxi dial" to the Submariner. Having made its debut on the Yacht-Master in 1991, the dial features larger hands and indexes. Further improving legibility and giving a subtle nod to some of the earliest examples of the Submariner. This watch has a MK1 dial: the "O" in "ROLEX" has an oval shape. Widely spaced "OYSTER PERPETUAL DATE" signature where the "R" of "OYSTER" sits between the legs of the "R" in "ROLEX". Wide "SWISS MADE" words with 5 shortened minute markers underneath its entire length.

This is a 1st case: the first production’s 16610LV’s featured the new "T" case with solid lugs and the model number 16610T engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, with "T" standing for "Trou Borgne", or "Blind Hole". It’s important to note that the model number engraved on the case doesn’t have the suffix LV. The serial number is engraved between the lugs at 6 o’clock in the traditional Rolex style.

The bezels of the 16610LV are divided into 2 main groups: "Fat 4" and "Pointed 4", with the early "Fat 4" bezels only in production for a few months. The watch that we offer you has a 1st "Fat 4" bezel: "Fat 4" "Serifed", the inside of the 4 in "40" is squared at the top but all the numbers with internal angles have very sharp, pronounced serifs in the classic Rolex style. The bezel is of a slightly lighter, olive green that the bezels that follow (nicknamed "Bertolli").

In excellent condition. First series; un-polished case and bracelet polished only once. Complete with original box and papers (including Rolex Anchor).

The Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic sport watches of all time. Its history and evolution has been constant since its first appearance in the market, during the early 1950s. The first Submariner debuted in 1954.

At the heart of the Ref. 16610LV, beats Rolex’s calibre 3135 movement. First introduced in 1988, the calibre 3135 has powered the majority of Rolex’s date-displaying, automatic watches for nearly 3 decades. Although the calibre 3135 has seen subtle improvements over the years, as Rolex continues to refine and improve its performance and reliability, it is still largely the same design that was first released more than 30 years ago. The calibre 3135 uses 31 jewels, with a 48-hour power reserve.
