Rolex Submariner 5513 "Feets First/ Non-Serif" Dial (approx. 1969)

*Watch Only*

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513, with a 40mm stainless steel case, bidirectional rotatable steel bezel with black aluminium lunette, black matte dial with Tritium indices and hands ("SWISS - T <25"). Plexiglass crystal, automatic movement calibre 1520. Oystersteel bracelet with deployant clasp (doesn't correspond to the period).

Initially produced with a glossy or "gilt" dial , the Ref. 5513 switched to a matte dial finish in the late 1960s, somewhere around 1966. During the matte dial years is when the model really took off and became what it is today, making this iteration all the more iconic. Due to the long production run of the matte dial Ref. 5513, collectors have keyed in on specific dial printing details to pin down variants within the broader reference. We offer you a 5513 "Feets First" and "Non-Serif Dial". The Non-Serif and Serif dials immediately follows the "Meters First" dials. The Non-Serif dials were introduced first around late 1969 to early 1970 consistent with cases stamped with serial numbers in the very early 2.000.000 range. The Non-Serif dial was named for its lack of serif on the paint underneath the Tritium of the 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock hour markers. The corners of each of these rectangular hour plots are perfect 90º angles. On the Non-Serif Dial the middle horizontal stroke of the letter "E" in "ROLEX" has an abundance of serif at the end. Also the Non-Serif Dial has the "P" in "PERPETUAL" shifted to the left. Other characteristics (also for the Serif Dial) are: open 6's; the "=" sign is above and slightly to the right of the "A" in "SUBMARINER" word; alignment of the print of the depth rating and "SUBMARINER" written below it.

In a very good state of preservation. Watch only (without original box and papers).

Read more about this watch...

The Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic sport watches of all the time. It's history and evolution has been constant since its first appearance in the market, during the early 1950s. The Rolex Submariner 5513 was introduced in 1962 (and ot was in production till 1989), just 3 years after the 5512 made its debut, and the main difference between 5513 and its predecessor is that it doesn't contain a movement certified as a chronometer by COSC. So the "SUPERTATIVE CHRONOMETER"/ "OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED" text seen on the 5512 is not here.

This 5513 transitioned to a new movement, the calibre 1520. The 1520 ran at a slightly gigher frecuency of 2,75 Hz (19.800 BPH), but used a lower-cost regulator and balance spring, so with a bit of innovation came a bit of cost-savings. It was never intendent to be COSC-certified, thus making it a good fit for the 5513.
