Rolex GMT-Master 1675 "Pepsi" "Gilt/ Glossy Dial" (1966)

*Full Set*

Pre-owned Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675, with a 40mm stainless steel case, steel bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated service bezel with blue and red ("Pepsi") aluminum lunette, original black gilt/ glossy Type C Tritium ("SWISS - T<25") dial with creamy indices, hour, minutes and seconds hands, red GMT hour hand with creamy "small" arrowhead, date indicator at 3 o’clock with cyclops magnifier. Plexiglass crystal. Automatic movement calibre 1565 (1560). Original Oystersteel bracelet with Oysterlock safety deployant clasp.

We offer you a watch with non-chapter ring gilt/ glossy dial Type C. The move away from chapter ring began in 1963. The general layout of these new dials, which utilized minute hashes without a connecting outer track, have been used by Rolex until the present. These gilt/ glossy and non-chapter ring models, which span from 1963 until 1967, also incorporate the crown guard evolution that occured in 1964. The non-chapter ring gilt/ glossy dials all have "ROLEX/ OYSTER PERPETUAL" on the upper half with a hyphen between "OYSTER" and "PERPETUAL", and "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFICATED" on the lower half. The Type C dial is the last of the gilt era. Most Type C dials are found in the shaped/ rounded crown guards cases that are seen from 1964 onwards. On the Type C dials the "OYSTER PERPETUAL" is evenly spaced (compared with Type A). The are 2 sub-types to Type C dial based on the size and spacing of the "SWISS - T<25", which otherwise share the same fonts: 1) "SWISS - T<25" is spread over the bottom 3 minute hashes (this is the most common) and 2) "SWISS - T<25" is spread over the bottom 5 minute hashes (this is less common). So the example that we offer you is the sub-type 2.

The early GMT-Master 1675 came with what was, at the time, a new "microstella" regulated 1565 calibre movement
. These movements were the first for Rolex to certify as "Superlative Chronometre Officially Certified" (SCOC) in the GMT-Master line. Gilt/ glossy dials and the transitional MK0 matte dial with serials earlier than 1,4... are usually seen with the 1565 movement. The 1565 movements are normally engraved [1560] on the automatic winding bridge, which is the base calibre certified movement on which the GMT and date functions were added. The 1565 movement beat at 18.000 VPH.

In good state of conservation. Complete with original box and papers.

Read more about this watch...

As the world became a global territory for industrialization, a growing population in the need to travel between countries boosted civil aviation. In 1953,
Rolex was entrusted to design a technical wristwatch specially for Pan Am’s crew. The result of this important task was the GMT-Master: able to read the time in 2 different time zones simultaneously. Rolex furnished the GMT-Master with a pair of center hour and minute hands to indicate the local time along with an extra 24-hour hand to display a second time zone by pointing to the 24-hour-marked rotating bezel.

From 1959 to 1980, the Rolex GMT-Master 1675 was the only GMT model produced by Rolex. It became immensely popular and, as is Rolex’s style, was incrementally improved throughout those 21 years.

The GMT-Master produced from 1959 until 1967 were so-called "thin cases", which maintained the thickness of the Ref. 6542 and were approximately 12,7mm thick.

The crowns on the Ref. 1675 were Rolex "Twinlocks", 5,3mm in diameter. The crown guards are found on all the Ref. 1675s. There're are generally broken down into 2 groups: 1) the pointed crown guards (PCG) and 2) rounded crown guards. The example that we offer you has rounded crown guards. These "standard" crown guards were upgraded to the shaped/ rounded crown guards around 1,1...-1,2... serial and remain on Rolex watches until today.
