Rolex GMT-Master 1675 "Cornino", Fuchsia Bezel, Gilt/ Glossy "Spider" Dial (1960)

*Watch Only*

Pre-owned Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675, with a 40mm stainless steel case, steel bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel with faded blue and fuchsia aluminum lunette, black gilt/ glossy Type 3 "Spider" "SWISS" dial with indices, hour, minutes and seconds hands, red GMT hour hand with creamy arrowhead, date indicator at 3 o’clock with cyclops magnifier. Plexiglass crystal. Automatic movement calibre 1560. Oyster steel bracelet with Oysterlock safety deployant clasp.

This 1675 that we offer you has a very rare early fuchsia bezel - the groove span the entire vertical portion of the bezel (these are seen on examples until around 1963). One more important detail are the oval "8s": the top half of the number 8 is oval. And the sides of 12 o'clock triangle sit toward the dial and are very bowed and wide.

We offer you a watch with chapter ring gilt/ glossy dial Type 3. The very earlies examples of glossy dials had a slight issue with the lacquer used to create their surfaces, which ultimately resulted in the variation known as "Spider dial" by today's collectors. Over time, some examples began to develop faint cracks in their gloss black finish, which is a phenomenon. The faint cracks are only present on the black background layer of the dial, meaning that the white text printed on top remains entirely undisturbed. The small cracks can only be seen when viewing the watch at an angle in bright light, and their appearance is slightly reminiscent of a spider's web (hence the "Spider dial" nickname). On the Type 3 dial the coronet is wide based, with a clear angle between the bottom and sides, with a large hole, and is balanced. Also the serifs on the lower bar of the L and the upper and lower bars of the E in ROLEX are large and angular; the L of ROLEX starts to the left of the P and ends over the E of PERPETUAL.

This watch also has "Pointed Crown Guards (PCG)" or "Cornino" in Italian, that can be seen only on early versions of the GMT-Master.

The early GMT-Master 1675 came with what was, at the time, a new "microstella" regulated 1565 calibre movement. These movements were the first for Rolex to certify as "Superlative Chronometre Officially Certified" (SCOC) in the GMT-Master line. Gilt/ glossy dials and the transitional MK0 matte dial with serials earlier than 1,4... are usually seen with the 1565 movement. The 1565 movements are normally engraved [1560] on the automatic winding bridge, which is the base calibre certified movement on which the GMT and date functions were added. The 1565 movement beat at 18.000 VPH.

In good state of conservation. Watch only (without original box and papers).

Read more about this watch...

As the world became a global territory for industrialization, a growing population in the need to travel between countries boosted civil aviation. In 1953,
Rolex was entrusted to design a technical wristwatch specially for Pan Am’s crew. The result of this important task was the GMT-Master: able to read the time in 2 different time zones simultaneously. Rolex furnished the GMT-Master with a pair of center hour and minute hands to indicate the local time along with an extra 24-hour hand to display a second time zone by pointing to the 24-hour-marked rotating bezel.

From 1959 to 1980, the Rolex GMT-Master 1675 was the only GMT model produced by Rolex. It became immensely popular and, as is Rolex’s style, was incrementally improved throughout those 21 years.
