The Royal Oak is considered the most popular watch that Audemars Piguet currently manufactures. It was first presented at the Baselworld in 1972 and is considered the world’s first luxury sports watch made of stainless steel. Produced amid significant pressures in the watch industry that debated between quarz and mechanical movements, the Royal Oak bet for traditional watchmaking fitted into a design never seen before. Royal Oak Offshore
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak, Audemars Piguet hired a young designer, Emmanuel Gueit, to design a new watch. The outcome was later known as Royal Oak Offshore. This model can be considered the first oversized sports watch in the fine watchmaking. Ever since it was first presented to the world, the Royal Oak has been the flagship watch of many prominent personalities such as the producer and rapper Jay-Z, basketball star Lebron James or international Hollywood celebrities as Arnold Schwarzenegger.
